  • Man of the moment: Laxman Sreekumar.

The 29-year-old batsman could not have asked for a better start to the tour, scoring 75 and 62 as the Associate side drew their two-day practice match against a Hampshire XI outfit in Southampton, England on Thursday.

While his knocks helped the tourists reach 391 and 115, that also saw a ton from Shaiman Anwar and a seven-wicket haul from captain Amjad Javed, Sreekumar is adamant to continue his form against hosts Scotland in Ayr.

“It feels really good to have scored some big runs in this game and it’s a great platform for me build on,” he said.

“In any format, whether it’s four-day games or T20s, you have to change your batting technique at times but you also require a lot of patience at the crease and I think that was the key on why I scored big.”

The Kerala-born cricketer was among the players to have worked with former England international Owais Shah during their training camp in Hampshire with the 38-year-old completing his six-day batting consultancy role Friday.

And Sreekumar insists the Englishman made a big impact in his short period.

“He told me what type of shots to play and what deliveries I should leave,” he said.

“Myself and the boys learnt a lot from him and he’s a superb player who gave some good batting advice. Hopefully, we can take this on board when we begin our games .”
