  • Every week, we feature a top performer from the extensive pool of cricket talent in the United Arab Emirates.

From the many blossoming cricketers in the region, we name a standout player from each round of the U-17 league organised by the Emirates Cricket Board.

CRICKETER OF THE WEEK – ANSH TANDON

Ansh Tandon is our award winner this week after his stunning innings helped Sharjah Cricket Academy to a 171-run win over Emirates Cricket Academy on Saturday.

The left-handed batsman scored 119 runs from 77 deliveries to help his side post a commanding score of 235/6 in the first innings.

Batting at number two, his innings included one six and 15 boundaries.

Tandon is currently the leading scorer in the competition and one of the most prominent players in the region, representing the UAE at U-16 and U-19 level.

    COACH’S INSIGHT

Tandon’s U-17 coach Kashif Daud lauded the young batsman after his match-winning innings.

“I think he’s a very talented player. Sometimes he struggles to make big runs, he can make 30, 40 and 50, but cannot convert big scores,” he said.

“He wasn’t afraid against Emirates Cricket Academy and played one of his best games so far.”

“He’s our key man and captain of the side, a very responsible player too.”

With two matches remaining, Sharjah are in pole position to reach the knock-out stages of the competition.

“We’ve only lost one game in five, so Ansh will be an important asset to the team for the rest of the league,” said Daud.
