  • Thumping victory: Dubai Barracudas (r).

Dubai Barracudas drubbed Al Ain Desert Foxes as five players found the end zone in a 33-0 win at Al Ain Club for the Disabled on Friday.

Barracudas’ offence marched methodically down the field in the game’s opening possession to score on a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Zavier Cobb to wide receiver Michael Andersen.

Following a short punt by Foxes in the second quarter, Barracudas got on the board again with a one-yard plunge by running back Blaque Washington to take a 13-0 lead.

The Foxes’ comeback attempts were stymied by giveaways. Dubai recovered two Al Ain fumbles with a strip-sack of Foxes quarterback Mutaz Abuhammour and a second loose ball to set up a two-yard touchdown pass from Cobb to tight end Rich Stead before halftime.

The Barracudas’ scoring run continued with a two-yard touchdown dive by running back Lamar Ellison at the end of the third quarter and an 18-yard Rudy Mason scamper to start the fourth.

“The offensive line played extremely well,” Barracudas coach Kyle Jordan said. “They were really driving the defensive line off the ball and giving Zavier time. It’s what I saw in the fourth quarter of the first game. That’s what I want to see consistently for four quarters.”

Foxes nearly ended their scoreless streak on the final drive of the game, but ran out of time as Barracudas’ defence held firm.

Despite the 0-2 start, Foxes coach Johnny Sharp was pleased with the effort of his team.

“I’m about 80 per cent happy. That other 20 per cent is what we’ll have to work on,” Sharp said. “This is only the second time with me coaching them, so next time we play the Stallions, we’ll be better.”
