Zavier Cobb was hoping the Desert Bowl was going to be his final game, but feels there’s still a mission left to accomplish.
The quarterback revealed after the 30-6 loss to the Dubai Stallions in the Desert Bowl that had his team won the title, he was going to ride off into the sunset as a champion.
Instead of hanging up his cleats and focusing on coaching, Cobb plans on returning next season and taking care of unfinished business.
“If we would have won today, it would have been my last game. We lost, so I’ll come back next year,” Cobb said. “I plan on being back again next year. I want to go out on top.”
The reigning MVP struggled all night as the offence couldn’t muster a single first down in the opening half.
“We just didn’t have the timing between the receivers and myself. Me not being at practice – I think I missed four practices – it didn’t help the timing or the cohesion of the offence at all.”
Barracudas coach Kyle Jordan said of his out-of-sync offence: “Some days you show up at the office and nothing is going right for you.
“It wasn’t [Zavier’s] day throwing the ball, but that’s alright, he’ll come back. He’s a great quarterback and I think he’s still the best quarterback in the league,”
he added. Cobb was absent from practice in the lead-up to the game because he was back home in the US with his family following the death of his mother.
Before stepping onto the field yesterday, he had already suffered a letdown with his son Jason and the Pee Wee Barracudas losing in their Desert Bowl.
Cobb and the Barracudas had their best year yet, finishing as the top team in the regular season and earning their first trip to the championship.
