  • Some of the stars expected to shine in this season's Premier League.

From Ryan Giggs to Harry Kane via Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Premier League has proved a breeding ground for some of European football's biggest stars.

Ahead of the start of the 2015-16 season we select five young players seeking to grab a share of the limelight.

    Kelechi Iheanacho (Man City)

    Age: 18
    Position: Striker, No10
    Nationality: Nigerian

Football fans in the UAE may remember him lighting up the Under-17 World Cup here in 2013 when he was Player of the Tournament. After an excellent pre-season, Iheanacho, comfortable up front or just off the striker, has been tipped for a place on the bench for City’s EPL opener.

    Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)
    Age:
    23
    Position: Striker
    Nationality: English

The Cherries have done well to hang on to a player who was a target for about half of the established EPL clubs. At 23 he is a late bloomer but he scored the same number of times last season (23 in 50) to fire the club to promotion. If he can reproduce that form then he may just keep them up.

    Delle Ali (Tottenham Hotspur)
    Age:
    19
    Position: Midfielder
    Nationality: English

Spurs paid about 5m (Dh24m) to land Ali earlier this year before loaning him straight back to the MK Dons. He made his debut for the Dons at 16 and by 19 had established himself as one of the best goalscoring midfielders outside the Premier League. Should get his chance this term.

    Brendan Galloway (Everton)
    Age:
    19
    Position: Defender
    Nationality: English

    Brendan Galloway.

Another former MK Dons youth player who is set for big things. He broke into the Everton team at the end of last year and looked the part. A rarity in England as a young, left-footed defender who is comfortable on the ball. Should get games, especially if John Stones were to leave.

    Jordon Ibe (Liverpool)
    Age:
    19
    Position: Winger
    Nationality: English

Some Liverpool fans shrugged off Raheem Sterling’s sale to Man City because it means Ibe will get more games now. The tricky winger has bags of pace, can beat a man and has an eye for goal. Should get plenty of time on the pitch and every chance to make his name.

    Harrison Reed (Southampton)
    Age
    : 20
    Position: Midfielder
    Nationality: English

Reed is as talented as he is ginger – and that is saying something. He broke into the Saints team last year and will look to build on that by nailing down a regular spot this term. An all-round midfielder, Reed is a tenacious ball-winner while his fetching and carrying adds continuity to a side.
