  • Tuesday (June 9) marks 100 days to go until the eagerly-anticipated FIFA Under-17 World Cup kicks off in the UAE.

Preparations for the tournament, which takes place between October 17 and November 8 throughout the Emirates, are already well underway.

Tickets for the 15th edition of the event are on sale with the 52 matches scheduled to take place across six cities – Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

UAE will be one of 24 nations taking part, alongside South American behemoths Brazil and Argentina, with coach Rashid Amir targeting a last four place for his young side.

Tournament director HE Mohammed Abdulla bin Bdoua is particularly pleased with how preparations are progressing and believes the country is ready to host “one of the most spectacular football events hosted in the region”.

“Preparations are well under way for staging the FIFA U-17 World Cup in less than four months, he said. “We are expecting thousands of fans to attend the three-week festival across the UAE and excitement is on the rise both at the LOC and amongst our partners as we edge closer to the tournament.

“I would urge fans to get a front row seat to the action and get their tickets today!”

Venue packages are on sale at www.fifa.com/u17worldcup and can also be booked by calling 800 STADIA (800 782342) toll-free from inside the UAE (+97156 2255927 from outside the UAE).

The venue packages allow fans to purchase a ticket for every match of the tournament in their selected host venue at a discounted rate.

The tournament takes place over the three-week period in six of the UAE’s top stadiums – Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Emirates Stadium in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah Stadium in Fujairah, Sharjah Stadium in Sharjah, Rashid Stadium in Dubai and Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium, Al Ain.

The final 24 qualified nations will begin the tournament in six groups of four, with the top two teams in each group automatically qualifying for the Round of 16. The four best third-placed teams from the Group stages will also progress to the knock-out stages.
