  • Al Wasl SC has confirmed their Board of Directors have stepped down for the second time in the last nine months, adding another chapter to a turbulent season at the Dubai club.

The Board are expected to stay at the club for the coming days until a new board is appointed while Mohammad bin Fahad will take charge of the club until the situation is resolved.

The Board is believed to have resigned due to the club’s poor season that sees the Cheetahs sit ninth in the Pro League after four managers have walked through the doors at the Zabeel Stadium.

The previous Board resigned in similar circumstances last June following a poor domestic campaign and defeat in the GCC Champions League final under the stweardshup of Diego Maradona.

The identity of the new members is currently unknown.

Confusion reigned at the Zabeel Stadium this evening with interim manager Eid Baroot being left in the dark over the situation and was only made aware of the board’s resignation by Sport360.

This season has seen constant upheaval at the club with Maradona being sacked during pre-season preparations before his replacement, Bruno Metsu, resigned early in his reign due to ill health.

Metsu’s replacements, Gilles Morrisseau and Guy Lacombe, struggled to get the club back on track before the latter was sacked last month. Current coach Baroot however isn’t worried about his position at the club.

“I never heard about it (the Board’s resignation),” Baroot said. “I think maybe the pressure was too much for the Board, it’s normal but I’ve not had it confirmed to me that they have resigned or not. I tried to call someone but no one informed.

“Some of the members I think criticised the Board, I think people thought things were unacceptable.

“I’m not worried in my position, I am fully confident in myself, if there are any decisions they are up to the (new) Board but I am really happy with my team and their spirits, they are my team.

“We are trying to do our best so I’m not really worried , the team is improving,” Baroot added. “Against Al Ain I was not happy with the result but we are going in the right direction, we are improving , there is a style in the team.”
