Abdulaziz Al Anbari has been appointed Sharjah’s caretaker coach after Carlos Azenha asked to be relieved from the post.
Portuguese Azenha was handed the reins in June, inking a one-year contract with the Pro League outfit, but he resigned from the post on Monday to be with his ailing wife.
Azenha, who has served as the assistant manager of Portuguese sides Boavista and FC Porto, had initially asked the club for 10 days off to travel to Portugal to be with his wife. But he decided to put in his papers and asked to be released as soon as possible after her health deteriorated further.
The club have turned to Al Anbari, who was in charge of their Under-19 side, as they hunt for a new manager.
Azenha will leave for Portugal, but his technical staff, which includes Jose Luiz and goalkeeping coach Miroslav, are expected to continue at the club, who begin their 2011/12 campaign at home to Nasr on Friday in the Etisalat Cup.
