The first-half of the 2013 season has been even better for the Argentine as he has netted five times in just 13 games, although his side currently find themselves sixth in the Primera Etapa table.
“Today he will say goodbye to his fans in Ecuador and he will be available within the next few days for a medical,” Wahda board member Areef Hamad Al Awani told Sport360.
Wahda are confident Diaz will pass that medical test and aim to officially confirm the signing of the former Rosario Central, Boca Juniors and Colon playmaker by Thursday.
Diaz will become the capital club’s third foreign signing of the summer following the arrival of countryman Sebastian Tagliabue and Chilean Marco Estrada. All three players have been given three year contracts with the option to extend for a further two.
Former Montpellier man Estrada is the only one over 30, enjoying his birthday just last month, and Wahda hope the trio will stay at the Al Nahyan Stadium for the next three years at least.
The transfers are part of a three-year plan that the club hope will return them to the summit of the UAE’s top-flight.
Ismail Matar and Hamdan Al Kamali have both been convinced to stay in the capital and Wahda believe that alongside Australian centre-back Dino Djulbic they now have a squad capable of fighting for a place in the top three.
