  • Birthday Boy: Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale celebrates his 27th birthday on Saturday and it’s been quite a year for the Welshman.

Despite having his domestic season interrupted by injuries, he still managed to contribute with some fine goals when he did take to the pitch for Real Madrid.

After his second Champions League triumph with the club, Bale capped off the season by starring for Wales in their phenomenal Euro 2016 run all the way to the semi-finals of the competition.

Sport360 looks back at his top five goals in the past year.

But first, here’s a compilation of one of the finest sights in football – Gareth Bale in full flight.

    VS VALENCIA

We all know about Cristiano Ronaldo’s aerial prowess but Bale is not slouch either. A fine header into the far corner at the Mestalla proves that unequivocally.

    VS REAL BETIS

The game was already won but that didn’t stop Bale from adding a little more gloss to the result with a fine strike from all of 35 yards to make it 5-0.

    VS SLOVAKIA

A stunning free-kick from their talisman saw Wales get off to a fine start at Euro 2016 against Slovakia. The goal set the tone for their historic run in the tournament.

    VS GETAFE

Once Bale breaks away, there’s no catching him and the Getafe defence were helpless as he chased down a ball over the top and slotted it away to make it 3-0 to Madrid.

    VS RUSSIA

Bale capped off a fine Welsh performance with a third goal in a victory over Russia at Euro 2016. He ghosted in behind the defence on the far side before stabbing his effort past the keeper.
