  • Bourne with it: Cahill's stunning goal in the Melbourne Derby

Purely for his tenacity, Tim Cahill was never quite pegged as a fox-in-the-box despite his poacher’s instinct and the fact that he scored his goals almost exclusively inside the 18-yard box.

Particularly during his spell at Everton, he was renowned for ghosting into the box and getting on the end of crosses. However, in his A-League debut, Cahill has scored a goal quite out of character.

When the ball fell to him in midfield, all of 40 yards from goal, Cahill instinctively struck it on the half-volley and saw his effort beat the keeper and dip under the bar.

Watch the phenomenal strike below which came in the Melbourne Derby no less for his new club Melbourne City… and of course, it was followed by his trademark corner flag celebration.
