  • With the transfer window now officially open from July 1, the frenetic nature of speculation is only going to increase.

Rumours are starting to gather pace and we take a look at the latest stories doing the rounds in the media.

    JAMES RODRIGUEZ

Liverpool are among the long list of clubs to have been offered Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez.

Alongside Manchester United, Manchester City, Inter Milan, Juventus and PSG, the Colombia international’s agent Jorge Mendes has sounded out a move away from the Bernabeu but so far no club is willing to pay Madrid’s €75million price tag.

    RATING: 5/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

Rodriguez wants to leave and Real Madrid are happy to sell with Dani Ceballos’ set to be signed from Real Betis but if no club wants to stump up the transfer fee then there’s every chance he remains in Spanish capital.

Liverpool are the latest name linked but given their riches in attacking positions and the potential costly capture of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita it’s difficult to see where Rodriguez fits.

In truth, he’s a luxury signing and one the Reds neither need or can realistically afford.

    VIRGIL VAN DIJK

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is contemplating handing in a transfer request to force through a move to Liverpool.

According to the Mirror, the 26-year-old has told Saints he will only accept a move to the Reds despite the club issuing an apology to their Premier League rivals for improper conduct in their pursuit of the Dutch centre-halve.

    RATING: 7/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

Even when Liverpool issued an apology to Saints there was a suspicion that the chase hadn’t ended.

With Manchester City and Chelsea now clearly out of the running, Southampton now face the possibility of trying to hold on to a player who clearly wants to leave.

With Van Dijk desperate for Champions League football, new Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino may well be prepared to sell rather keep an unhappy player.

    DANI ALVES

Paris Saint-Germain are trying to hijack Manchester City’s move for Dani Alves.

Le10Sport are saying a possible agreement has been made with the Brazilian who is a free agent after negotiating his release from Juventus.

    RATING: 4/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

Stranger things have happened but Alves’ move to City seems all-but finalised.

There’s talk he has already verbally agreed to join up with Pep Guardiola and a two-year deal will be announced some time this week.
