Lewis Hamilton got off the mark for 2018 and took the championship lead from Sebastian Vettel when the Mercedes driver emerged a fortuitous winner of an incident-laden Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Briton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas was destined to take the chequered flag only for the Finn’s car to puncture with only a handful of laps on the streets of Baku remaining.

    FOOTBALL

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane spoke of his frustration at their La Liga campaign after a 2-1 victory over Leganes.

The defending champions, who could add sparkle to what has been a difficult season by winning their third consecutive Champions League crown, have struggled for consistency domestically this term and are fighting to cling onto third place with Valencia in hot pursuit.

“We can’t be happy with what we’ve done in the league in general. We lost a lot of points at the beginning, then we were a bit better but that can happen in a season,” Zidane said post-match at the Bernabeu.

Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli is up to his old tricks.

After tucking away a penalty against Strasbourg to level the scores 1-1, the 27-year-old striker raced towards the goal, although there was still 30 minutes remaining. He grabbed with the ball from the net and started running back but defender Ernest Seka knocked it out of his hands.

Meanwhile, Isco and Nacho return to Madrid training ahead of the second leg against Bayern Munich.

Defender Nacho, who had been out since the start of April with a thigh problem, also took part in the light session a day after Real beat Leganes in La Liga.

Isco injured a shoulder in the first leg in Munich last Wednesday. On Friday, coach Zinedine Zidane said that the player would be out of the return leg on Tuesday.
