In England’s last five games, only two players have plundered with Kieran Trippier’s stunning free-kick at the World Cup against Croatia and Marcus Rashford’s single strikes against Spain and Switzerland making them the only ones to affect the scoreline.

Gareth Southgate’s side have had their chances, though, and in particular their profligacy cost them in their most recent outing with Croatia as they were held to a 0-0 draw despite creating the game’s most clear-cut chances.

However, speaking ahead of the Three Lions’ crucial Nations League clash with Spain in Seville on Tuesday, the England boss allayed fears over his misfiring forwards.
