Barcelona’s second choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillissen believes that promising Ajax duo of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt would be delighted to ply their trades in Blaugrana colors.
“De Ligt and De Jong would be delighted to come to Barca,” Cillessen told Diario Sport.
“We have talked about it already, we share meals at the national team and we talk about lots of things, but they have mentioned what a great club Barca are.”
De Ligt has been exceptional for Netherlands
The Dutch international has already played with De Ligt during his time at Ajax and believes he can add a lot of quality to Barcelona.
“With De Jong, I didn’t play together at Ajax, but I did play with De Ligt for a few weeks, because he came up to the first team in the summer of 2016,” he added. “I was able to work with him that preseason, before coming to Barca. He’s a player with a lot of quality and is only 19.
“De Light is a very strong player, both physically and mentally, and he is only 19 years old, what he has already achieved is incredible.
“Recently he played a magnificent match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and he recovered well against Germany in the Nations League.”
De Jong in action for Netherlands
Cillissen had some positive words for De Jong, too. He feels the youngster can be a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets.
He said: “He can do both [midfield roles]. With the national team he plays more like Busquets. But Busquets is on another level at the moment. I think he’s undervalued by most people. We spoke about him with the national team and I said when he’s not there you miss him, that’s the great quality of Busquets.”
The chances of both these players signing for Barcelona depends on what Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has in mind for the Dutch giants.
“It all depends on Overmars what happens and I do not know what his plans are.”
