  • Jordi Alba is worried about his running out of contract with Barcelona

Jordi Alba and Luis Enrique haven’t always enjoyed the smoothest of relationships, but Alba’s club and national team colleague Gerard Pique seems to have come to his aide.

On Thursday, Spain boss Luis Enrique will be announcing the squad for Spain’s Nations League tie against Croatia and an international friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Alba had reportedly fallen out of favour with the former Barcelona manager towards the end of the latter’s tenure in charge at the Camp Nou.

The left-back was absent from most of Barca’s line-ups towards the end of the 2016/17 season and even failed to make the national team squad after Enrique was announced as Spain boss.

After a string of magnificent performances though, Alba was backed by his Barcelona and former Spain teammate Pique who made a public comment where he mentioned that the left-back deserves his spot in the national team.

Enrique finally responded to this. “Pique knows a lot about football and I accept his advice,” he said midway through Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The former Barca boss maintains he still holds the left-back in high regard, but failed to provide any clarity on whether he will be picked for the upcoming games.

“However, I’ve got to where I have because of my way of understanding football. I see Jordi Alba in a very good light, like I always have. It’s never changed,” added Enrique.
