  • Peru’s unlikely march towards Copa America glory continued as experienced forwards Paolo Guerrero and Andre Carrillo masterminded a stunning 3-0 Copa America semi-final victory over Chile.

Big-name stars Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal failed to deliver the goods for the reigning champions, who can have no complaints as they crashed out of the competition.

Check out how everyone fared with our full player ratings.

    CHILE

Arias 5. Went on a disastrous walkabout to gift Peru their second goal, and never looked assured between Chile’s posts.

Isla 6. A strong attacking presence, coming close with a long-range strike, but should have done much better with Peru’s second.

Medel 5. Looked a spent force in the centre of defence, with his lack of mobility making life easy for Peru’s forward line.

Maripan 5. Had a really tough game against the movement and control of Guerrero and Cueva, struggling to impose himself.

Beausejour 5. Decent attacking outlet with overlapping runs and nearly scored with a volley, but weak defensively.

Aranguiz 6. Chile’s link between defence and attack missed a good early opening and fired another half-chance over the bar.

Pulgar 6. Often finding himself overrun in the centre of midfield, he was unable to set the tempo or provide control.

Vidal 6. A prominent figure early on but faded badly, although he did burst forward to have a late header saved.

Fuenzalida 4. Anonymous in the first half on the right until he nearly volleyed home a loose ball, but was replaced at the break.

Vargas 5. Unfortunate to hit the post with a header. Had another big chance saved late on and fluffed a last-gasp penalty.

Sanchez 5. Nearly scored direct from a corner but was poor in open play, regularly giving the ball away. Had a late strike saved.

    SUBSTITUTES

Sagal 5. Came on at half-time but made little difference as Chile failed to find their rhythm. Booked for a petulant late foul.

Castillo. Strangely only introduced in the 89th minute, by which time it was far too late to make any impact.

    PERU

Gallese 9. Made key saves from Fuenzalida and Beausejour, and did well to deny Vargas and Sanchez late on, including the former’s penalty.

Advincula 8. Used his searing pace to firstly tie up the threat of Sanchez and secondly offer a strong attacking presence.

Zambrano 8. Showed good anticipation and was sharp in the tackle to close down space in and around the box.

Abram 7. Tigerish and committed in the centre of defence, just spoiling his performance with a late rash challenge for a penalty.

Trauco 7. Relatively restrained performance from the flamboyant left-back, who showed some nice touches and defended well.

Yotun 8. Fired home the second, missed a great chance for another goal and was a strong presence in the heart of midfield.

Tapia 8. Outstanding in the centre of the pitch, using the ball well and showing positional sense to break up Chile’s possession.

Carrillo 8. Saw plenty of the ball down the right and always a threat on the break, setting up the second with a run and cross.

Cueva 7. Stabbed a glorious chance wide after two minutes but proceeded to deliver a classy display, full of confidence on the ball.

Flores 7. Scored the key opener after making a dangerous burst into to win the corner. Injured early in the second half.

Guerrero 8. Intelligent movement to link play well, including a flick-on to set up the opener. Wrapped it up with a coolly taken third.

    SUBSTITUTES

Gonzales 6. Replaced Flores on the left wing shortly after the break, and did a solid defensive job to protect his team’s lead.

Polo 6. Came on for Carrillo for the final 20 minutes, stayed disciplined to support his defence and subdue Sanchez.

Ballon 6. Added into the midfield for the dying stages and did his job to cover the centre of the field.
