  • Dirk Kuyt has opened the door to a possible exit from Liverpool this summer after admitted his frustration at failing to hold down a regular first-team place at Anfield.

The Dutchman, 31, has endured a stop-start campaign in this his sixth season with the club since his switch from Feyenoord in 2006.

The highs of scoring a last-minute winner against Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth-round and netting in Liverpool’s Carling Cup success over Cardiff have been tempered by his inability to cement his place in Kenny Dalglish’s starting XI.

With the recent return to full fitness of skipper Steven Gerrard, Dalglish has opted to play summer signing Jordan Henderson on the right-side of midfield forcing Kuyt to drop to the bench.

As a result the Dutchman, who was linked with a January move to Turkish giants Galatasaray, admits he may have reconsider his options if he continues to find himself on the sidelines.

“I want to play every game. It is very disappointing when I don’t – like the Carling Cup final for instance,” Kuyt told the Daily Mirror. “From my point of view I’m feeling really well physically, I don’t think I’ve ever felt stronger, and I’m ready to play games, I am ready to play every game of the season. For me it is all about trying to convince the manager he needs to pick me more than he does at the moment.

“I can see myself staying at Anfield for the rest of my career, as long as I am satisfied and am entitled to play in each game to get to the level I want to be. As long as I play as much as I want to play then I will be happy, but if it gets to the point where I am not playing every game any more, then maybe I will have to make another decision – but I don’t think about that at this stage.”

Kuyt, who has chalked up over 250 appearances for Liverpool, has started just 20 games for the club this season and has found himself on the bench for their impressive wins over Stoke and Everton in their last two outings.
