Former England manager Fabio Capello in Dubai for Global Soccer Awards announcement

  • Fabio Capello, the former England and Real Madrid manager, will be present  in Dubai today when BC Bendoni Communications’ announces it will be staging the fourth edition of the Globe Soccer Awards in the city later this year.

    This is the third year that Capello will be attending the event here in Dubai. Also expected at the announcement at Al Nasr Club are Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro, who retired from football while at Al Ahli and currently serves as a member of the technical committee of the club, and Ghana legend Abedi Pele, who ended his career after a stint with Al Ain.

    Luciano Moggi, a former director at Juventus, and Gianmarco Calleri, former Chairman and owner of FC Torino and AS Lazio, and Al Nasr coach Walter Zenga are also expected to attend the event.

    During today’s press conference, Bendoni Communications are expected to reveal more about the awards night and the Dubai International Sports Conference, for which they have roped in a new event partner GEA World Middle East.

    Capello said: “I’m here to enjoy magical Dubai and am all for backing the development of football in the region.”

    Tommaso Bendoni, of Bendoni Communications, added: “Fabio has been a very good friend and supporter of Bendoni Communications and we are looking forward to him arriving here for the press conference and then for the awards night later in the year.”

    The press conference will take place in Al Nasr’s VIP Lounge and coincide with the final of the 2nd Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Under-19 Football Championships, which is being organised by Dubai Sports Council. Capello is expected to attend the final as well.
