  • Al Wahda are hoping to complete their overseas contingent with a defensive signing and are confident of unveiling their fourth foreign player in a week’s time.

The Abu Dhabi giants have so far signed three foreigners Eric Mouloungui and Papa Waigo from Nice and Ascoli respectively and Anas Bani Yaseen from Kuwait’s Al Qadsiya after dispensing with Brazilians Hugo, Magrao and Fernando Baiano and returning on-loan Oman international Mohammed Al Shaiba to Al Wasl.

Wahda were busiest in the transfer market early on replacing coach Josef Hickersberger with Branko Ivankovic and now the four-time UAE champions hope to complete their foreign quartet in a few days’ time before training starts.

Media Manager Khalid Awadh said: “So far things are good, but the players we have brought we will only be able to assess once training starts.”

“All our overseas players have arrived in the country and are ready for the medicals. We are in the hunt for a fourth player and we are hoping to sign a defensive midfielder.

“We will make the announcement shortly.”

Wahda are set to host a six-team friendly pre-season tournament during the Holy Month of Ramadan from August 9-17.

Meanwhile, Wahda’s neighbours, the President Cup champions Al Jazira are said to be keen on releasing striker Bare, while Sharjah have secured Salmeen Khamis on loan from Al Ahli.
