  • Confusion surrounds the Hungarian opponents the UAE Olympics team saw off 5-0 on Wednesday.

The Whites Under-23 produced an efficient display as they continue their warm-up to London 2012. But while the Hungary federation said the team was their Under-23 team, sources in the country have claimed that was not so.

It is believed the team may have been Hungary’s Under-17 National Minority Team, made up of members of a Romani community.

Nevertheless, UAE’s veteran striker Ismail Matar scored a fine second-half brace to lead his team to victory in Linz, Austria.

Al Ahli striker Ahmad Khalil, Jazira’s Khamis Esmail and Haboush Saleh of Bani Yas also got on the scoresheet for the UAE.

Khamis open then scoring for the Whites, finishing with a deft right-foot shot following an assist from the industrious Al Ain midfielder Omar Abdulrahman in the 33rd minute.

Khalil added a second a minute from the break. Matar was introduced at half-time, and got his first from a spectacular free-kick before dribbling through the defence and slotting home.

Haboush had earlier made it 4-0 with a 67th-minute strike.
