Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has paid tribute to departed team-mate Nigel de Jong.
The Dutch midfielder ended his three-stay at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday after flying to Italy to complete the formalities of his switch to Serie A giants AC Milan.
De Jong, 27, was a key member of City’s title-winning side last season and close friend of Kompany, who has wished him well at the San Siro.
“@NDJ_Official Sad to see my brother in arms leave the club. He has been part of a successful era at MCFC. Nigel, I wish you good luck!,” he wrote on Twitter.
City boss Roberto Mancini, who has lined up Benfica’s Javi Garcia as De Jong’s replacement, has tipped the Dutchman to be a huge success in Italy.
“I am sorry because Nigel was an important player for us but if he is happy, I am happy for him. I am sure he will do really well in the Italian championship.”
Meanwhile, City have completed the signing of winger Scott Sinclair who joins the Premier League champions from Swansea in a deal that could eventually be worth £8million.
Sinclair, who represented Team GB at the recent Olympic Games, has been handed the No11 shirt, recently vacated by Adam Johnson following his departure for Sunderland.
