  • Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric hopes former Tottenham teammate Gareth Bale will one day join him at the Bernabeu.

Modric, 27, made his move to Real Madrid in August after a summer of negotiations between Spurs and the Spanish giants, and there were concerns from Tottenham fans that Bale could join him in making a move to a major European club.

Bale eased those concerns by penning a new four-year contract, and the Welshman has begun the season in impressive style both for club and country.

Bales latest performance – a man of the match display against Scotland in their World Cup qualifier in which he scored both goals including a 25-yard stunner – has drawn a huge amount of praise from both national boss Chris Coleman and former manager Harry Redknapp, who both believe the winger could walk into any team in the world.

Former Real and Croatia striker Davor Suker also claimed Bale would be a success for Los Blancos, and Modric has agreed with his compatriot and urged the 23-year-old to join him at the Spanish champions.

“I agree he should play for Real Madrid and I hope he’ll come,” Modric said.

“It would be amazing and I think he can [play for Real Madrid].

    “He’s a good enough player.”
