  • Shaheen Surour.

Newly-promoted Ittihad Kalba welcomed forward Shaheen Surour to their training camp Wednesday after the U-21 League top scorer secured a loan switch from Al Jazira.

The talented 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough 2015/16, his 14 strikes during 24 games in the junior ranks seeing him claim the coveted leading marksman prize at May’s 2015/16 Arabian Gulf League Awards. Such form alerted the Tigers, who are attempting to build a squad which would defy their yo-yo reputation between the top flight and First Division League (FDL).

Their new addition – who joined up with his team-mates in Romania is largely untested at senior level. His only taste of AGL action came in the last four minutes of January’s 1-1 draw with Sharjah, while he made one start and another short substitute appearance during last term’s Arabian Gulf Cup.

He will be tasked with providing support to Burkina Faso striker Yahia Kebe and retained Romanian attacker Mihai Costea, who headed the scoring charts for Kalba last season with 17 goals.

Meanwhile, FDL champions Hatta continued their extensive recruitment drive last night by snapping up unwanted Al Wasl midfielder Adnan Hussein.

Hussein, 30, was made available by the Cheetahs after playing only six top-flight games last term. Despite this inactivity, he remained an attractive proposition for coach Walid Al Balooshi because of his vast experience at Al Ahli, Bani Yas, Emirates Club and Al Nasr.

This saw him become the Tornado’s 13th summer addition.
