  • It is a first for UAE football.

The Red Knights and The Pride of Abu Dhabi meet at the ‘June the 30th Stadium’ in Cairo with kick-off scheduled at 21:15 UAE time.

Both sides will get a chance to train at the 30,000-capacity venue on Sunday evening in behind-closed doors sessions for one hour.

Before that, coaches – Cosmin Olaroui (Al Ahli) and Henk ten Cate (Al Jazira) will hold their pre-match press conferences on Sunday, beginning from 12:00.

Arabian Gulf League champions Ahli, who travelled Saturday, will wear their home kit, with President’s Cup winners Jazira, who arrived on Friday, donning their away jerseys.

It will be the first time, the traditional season curtain-raiser will be played overseas and presents a chance for both teams win their first piece of silverware.

Mohammed Kamel, chairman of the Presentation Sports Agency, which is organising the match, said: “We anticipate many of our Emirati brothers to visit Cairo during the Eid al Adha holiday and therefore it is a perfect opportunity to continue strengthening our partnership as nations through football and by playing this match on Egyptian soil.

“It’s something we dreamed of many months ago, and now we will see come to realisation.”

Ahli boast an impressive record in this competition, winning three titles – their last in 2014/2015.

Jazira are aiming to secure their first Arabian Gulf Super Cup in the ninth edition of the tournament.
