  • Pointing the way: Cosmin Olaroiu has been the dominant coach in the AGL for the previous three years.

Cosmin Olaroiu believes his Arabian Gulf League victory with Al Ahli has silenced his doubters and proved he was right to depart from his role as Al Ain coach and take over the reins of the Dubai side.

Olaroiu secured his third straight league title having lead Al Ain to the AGL summit in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons before his controversial move to Ahli which landed the Romanian a six month ban from the dugout for breach of contract.

The UAE Football Association imposed the ban after Al Ain's complaint that Olaroiu signed with Al Ahli despite having an agreement in place to stay on with The Boss was upheld by FIFA.

“In life you have to take decisions and winning the third straight league showed everyone that I took the right decision,” said Olaroiu.

“For me my life and my family life is most important for me and when you make a choice you have to see the future and see the potential to put everything in balance. Some people didn’t agree with my decision but in the end people can see now that it was the right decision.”

With only two games remaining in the AFC Champions League group stage, a victory for Ahli against the Saudi giants tonight would guarantee them a spot in the next roundas the Red Knights currently sit top of Group D with six points.

Al Ain have suffered terribly in the league, with the Romanian's immediate replacement, Jorge Fossati, given his marching orders on the eve of the season, while Quique Sanchez Flores, who swapped jobs with Olaroiu at the start of the season, was sacked at the start of the year.

A dismal campaign sees Al Ain languish seventh in the table, 21 points adrift of Ahli.
