UAE football has received a welcome boost after it was revealed Al Wahda starlet Ahmed Al Akbari is now in a “stable” condition in intensive care after Thursday morning’s road accident.

Al Akbari, 21, was transferred immediately to Abu Dhabi’s Mafraq Hospital after the incident. Al Bayan stated that the emerging starlet – who has scored once in four 2018/19 Arabian Gulf League appearances – had suffered fractures to his back and ribs, while Dubai Sports declared he was in a critical condition upon arrival.

Speaking to the Clarets’ website, his father Salman was full of gratitude for the subsequent outpouring of support witnessed.

He said: “Ahmed’s condition is stable and he is lying in intensive care under close supervision. We wish him a speedy recovery and God bless him with wealth and happiness.

“I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Diab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of Al Wahda, for his interest and guidance in providing all necessary means to treat the player and follow up on his health.

“We also thank all the sports councils and all the clubs’ management, the media and the sports community for their good feelings towards Ahmed and his family.”

Al Akbari is considered an outstanding prospect and future UAE international.

His brother, Mohamed, struck in Al Nasr’s 3-1 Bur Dubai derby win against Al Wasl on Friday. Ex-Real Madrid and Spain striker Alvaro Negredo dedicated his goal in the same game to the family.
