Ex-France midfielder Yohan Cabaye has challenged his Al Nasr team-mates to sustain their revival when a hurt Al Wahda come to town on Friday.

The Blue Wave, remarkably, lost their opening four Arabian Gulf League fixtures of 2018/19. But the integration of former Spain and Real striker Alvaro Negredo has coincided with a pair of victories, the latest a memorable 3-1 Bur Dubai derby triumph at Al Wasl.

In contrast, Wahda – last term’s runners-up – shockingly lost 4-2 against lowly Al Dhafra last weekend and will be determined to produce a firm response.

“The team has been able to regain confidence after winning three-consecutive games, the most recent win in the derby was outstanding,” said Cabaye, who joined this summer on a free transfer from Crystal Palace.

“The match against Al Wahda will provide a suitable opportunity to continue the run of victories in order to reduce the difference with the front teams.”

Meanwhile, Al Ain coach Zoran Mamic has demanded to see a “combative spirit” when the holders look to rebound against Ajman from an opening loss of the season.

The Boss suffered a late collapse against fellow high-flyers Al Jazira, going down 2-1 on home soil. Mid-table opponents are next on the agenda.

“They are required to show strong personality, combative spirit, raise their focus and offer a better level than we were in,” said Mamic.

Another highlight of round seven is the derby between promoted Fujairah and Dibba Al Fujairah, who will be led by Mohamed Kwid for the first time.
