  • Going Down: Ajman's four-year AGL run has ended.

Ajman’s four-year stay in the Arabian Gulf League met an entertaining end after they played out a critical 3-3 draw at Al Wasl. The Orange Brigade needed to win to stand any hope of taking the fight to the last two rounds.

They took the lead twice at Zabeel Stadium, but will now be playing in UAE Division 1 Group A next term.

Boris Kabi and Driss Fettouhi’s penalties for the visitors book-ended Cheetahs forward Caio Canedo’s header.

Mohamed Alantaly then made it 3-1, a late rally from Canedo and a penalty from Ederson securing a share of the spoils. Meanwhile, dethroned champions Al Ahli enjoyed a positive trip to bottom-placed Ittihad Kalba as they claimed a resounding 3-0 triumph.

The Red Knights climbed up to a distant fifth thanks to full-back Abdelaziz Sanqour’s thunderbolt, Everton Ribeiro’s strike and Habib Fardan’s penalty – his first for the club in a dismal debut season since last summer’s big-money switch from Al Nasr.

Bani Yas made it two wins on the bounce after going seven matches without one thanks to striker Denis Stracqualursi’s solitary strike against Al Dhafra.

Despite the loss, Ajman’s reversal guaranteed the third-bottom Western Knights’ top-flight safety.
