  • Under pressure: Emenike.

Al Ain boss Zlatko Dalic has launched a staunch defence of under-pressure striker Emmanuel Emenike and pleaded for fans to “be patient”.

Emenike, 28, has become a surprise target for Boss supporters during the early months of his one-season loan from Fenerbahce despite scoring six goals in eight appearances.

“The last game [against Al Jazira in the Arabian Gulf League] we won, Emenike was part of our victory,” said Dalic, ahead of Thursday night’s Arabian Gulf Cup match against Sharjah in Group B.

“For me, he played very well, did a great job, but only missed scoring a goal. I know everyone expects more goals, expects him to be a replacement for Asamoah Gyan.

“Please, our fans, be patient, give time, give everyone a chance, to me, to my team, to Emenike.”

The evening’s other fixture will see Al Shaab begin life without sacked coach Tarek El Ashry with the visit of Emirates Club in Group A.

“I am preparing with the players to open a new page for a better future for Shaab,” said interim boss Jamsheer Muratocalo. “I am putting my trust in the players to assist with all their strength to overcome this phase and paint a better future.”
