  • Brace hero: Al Ain’s Ibrahim Diaky (l).

Arabian Gulf League champions Al Ain weathered an early dismissal to earn a hard-fought 4-2 victory at bottom-placed Al Shaab on Friday.

The Boss had already seen veteran midfielder Ibrahim Diaky level from a rebound after home captain Michael Laurent N’dri pounced to secure an early advantage, before UAE Olympic midfielder Ahmed Barman was dismissed on 24 minutes for two yellow cards.

Zlatko Dalic’s men then showed their experience to race into a 3-1 lead by 38 minutes. Diaky nodded home Omar Abdulrahman’s corner and Emmanuel Emenike scored the first of two penalties after a Celio dos Santos handball.

The People remained undaunted and after Chilean forward Matias Donoso hit the post from a header, Amro Elsoulia soon tucked in after a Khalid Essa spill on 57 minutes to make it 3-2. But their hope was soon killed off, Emenike converting from 12 yards after he was tripped by goalkeeper Obaid Altawila.

Meanwhile, 10-man Bani Yas’ awful run of form has continued after they went down to a Wanderley-inspired 3-0 defeat at Sharjah.

The Brazilian striker produced a goal-of-the season contender on 40 minutes to put the relegation-threatened hosts ahead, his volleyed lob sailing home. He then doubled his haul from the restart, before a second-successive victory for interim boss Abdulaziz Al Anbari was secured as Walid Ahmed fired home.

Under-pressure boss Luis Garcia’s misery was further compounded on 80 minutes as defender Masoud Sulaiman saw red.

Al Shabab cruised to their third-successive top-flight triumph as forward Henrique Luvannor’s early brace saw off 10-man Emirates Club.
