  • Real Betis boss Quique Setien is planning on whisking away Denis Suarez from Barcelona.

Betis were the surprise package in La Liga last season, finishing in sixth place and returning to European competition for the first time in four years.

And Setien’s recruitment drive for the Europa League appears to include Barcelona midfielder Suarez, who has struggled for game time at the Camp Nou.

The 21-year-old appeared just 18 times in La Liga as Barcelona romped to their 25th title.

“I would like to have Denis Suarez at Betis,” Setien told Onda Cero.

“Lorenzo Serra Ferra (the Betis sporting director) knows what my preferences are and which players I am a fan of, but we are talking about players on good money, on stable contracts.

“We hope we can be in a position to compete for these players, but it is very difficult for various factors, to get these signings right.”

However, Setien is less confident that he will be able to prise away Real Madrid outcast Dani Ceballos from the Bernabeu.

“Ceballos? There are many things to consider with Dani too, it could not be easy but his talent is obvious and that would be my desire,” he added.

“Betis do not have a big bag of money like other clubs but we will try to get our signings right.”
