Barcelona right-back Sergi Roberto hopes that mentor Luis Enrique’s ascension to the Spain national side will lead to a recall.
Roberto, 26, was snubbed from the World Cup 2018 squad by Julen Lopetegui. But the 51-year-old was dismissed on the eve of the tournament after his shock move to Real Madrid, leading to ex-Barca boss Enrique taking over last month.
“Luis Enrique was a very important figure for me,” said Roberto.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba returned from their summer break on Tuesday as the quartet look to step up their preparations for Barcelona ahead of the new season.
The four players were on holidays following their World Cup participation with Argentina and Spain respectively and undertook medical and fitness tests before their first training session.
The first-team are in the US and will play AS Roma in the early hours of tomorrow before finishing the tour off against AC Milan on Saturday.
The Spanish champions play their first game of the season against Sevilla in the Spanish Super Cup on August 12.
