Barcelona hope to make Flamengo attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta their latest Brazilian recruit, according to reports.
Paqueta, 21, made his debut for Brazil in the weekend’s 2-0 friendly win against the United States after excelling for his boyhood club. This followed being picked in the preliminary 30-man squad for World Cup 2018.
SPORT have stated that an emergence as a box-to-box player has caught the eye of club scouts who intend to make him the latest part of their midfield renovation. Gremio’s Arthur – who also made his bow against the US – supplemented this area when he completed a move to the La Liga champions in the summer.
Paqueta’s exploits have not gone unnoticed elsewhere. Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Manchester City have all previously been linked.
He’s scored eight times in 31 league run-outs this year.
Barcelona have given a lukewarm reaction after they were offered the services of Stuttgart and France defender Benjamin Pavard for approximately €35 million, according to reports.
Pavard, 22, was a key figure at right-back for Les Bleus when they lifted World Cup 2018. Such fine form saw rumours emerge in the aftermath that a deal had been agreed to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in summer 2019, only for the player to recently reject this stance.
Mundo Deportivo has stated that Barca are among a group of clubs offered the ex-Lille starlet’s service. But with a surfeit of options at right-back, including Spain’s Sergio Roberto and Portugal’s Nelson Semedo, a move is unlikely.
Pavard has scored once in 12 appearances for France – a screamer against Argentina in this summer’s round of 16.
Barcelona are in talks about a lucrative December friendly in Riyadh against Al Hilal and the Saudi Arabia giants have demanded the presence of Lionel Messi, according to reports.
The winter break provides an annual opportunity for the La Liga champions to cash in on their enormous global pull. They have a recent tradition of heading to the Middle East at that time, with 2016’s 5-3 win against Al Ahli Jeddah in Doha the last example.
Mundo Deportivo has stated that negotiations have opened with the Crescent to set-up the game. Barca would charge a “significant amount” of money to feature and the players would take home a bonus.
If agreed, this would be the second time that UAE superstar Omar Abdulrahman has played them. He was a guest player for Ahli in December 2016’s clash and is spending 2018/19 at Hilal.
