Sergi Roberto had a field day at the Camp Nou as he put on a spectacular performance in ‘El Clasico’. The Spanish international was the best player on the pitch, after Suarez and took the game away from Real Madrid in the second half.
The 26-year-old floated in a low cross for Suarez to blast it into the net with his head for Barcelona’s third goal. He added another assist to his tally as he capitalised on a mistake from Sergio Ramos and set Suarez into space, allowing the Uruguayan to complete his hat-trick.
“We had control of the game except for a few minutes in the second half.”
Roberto had provided Suarez in the last two meetings between the two clubs and more famously in Barcelona’s 0-4 win at the Bernabeu in 2016 and has formed a formidable partnership with Suarez when it comes to Clasicos.
“He joked and asked why I didn’t assist him anymore,” Sergi Roberto said.
“But this time I assisted him twice, although on one of those the ball went to [Jordi] Alba.”
The Spanish international was extremely pleased with how the game took off and wished that it had lasted longer. Roberto believes that winning such important matches in the absence of Lionel Messi lifts the confidence of the team.
“I would’ve liked the game to go on a little longer,” he continued.
“To get a result like this in a Clasico is desirable for anyone.
“It reinforces our confidence to win like this without our best player and now Leo [Messi] can rest and recover well.”
