  • Jordi Alba is worried about his running out of contract with Barcelona

Jordi Alba has started this season in great form for Barcelona.

The left-back starred in the recent 5-1 El Clasico thumping of Real Madrid over the weekend as well.

Club and country team-mate Gerard Pique has therefore urged Spain coach Luis Enrique to recall the 29-year-old to the national team set-up.

“I hope Luis Enrique rectifies the situation and calls him again,” he said.

Reports claim the former Barcelona coach fell out with Alba towards the end of his time at Camp Nou and since taking over Spain, has declined to name the full-back in his squad, opting for Marcos Alonso and Jose Luis Gaya instead.

Following Alba’s excellent performance against Bale in a Clasico during which he also set-up the opening goal, calls for him to be reinstated in the national team have increased.

In the mixed zone after the encounter, Alba expressed his delight at his current form.

“I’m in a great moment and playing with great confidence because of my team-mates, coach and fans,” he said.

“I’m at a very good point of my career both on a personal and sporting level.”
