  • Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has admitted he was disappointed after his side’s 5-1 demolition of Real Madrid.

Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick El Clasico on Sunday, a win which put Barca a point clear at the top of the La Liga table and seven ahead of Real, who sacked Julen Lopetegui the following day.

But Valverde has admitted the win does not make his position safe.

“I’m exactly the same as a week ago and the previous one, people are happier and that makes everything more calm,” said Valverde.

“Though I’m disappointed because I thought I was going to have super powers now, but no.”

The manager’s own future in Catalonia was questioned after a poor run last month saw them draw at home to Girona and Athletic Bilbao and lose away to bottom-placed Leganes.

But since beating Tottenham 4-2 in the Champions League, Barca have won three of their last four – despite captain Lionel Messi breaking an arm against Sevilla.
