  • Yerry Mina couldn't make it big at Barcelona

Barcelona legend Carles Puyol feels that it was hard for Yerry Mina to succeed in Catalonia because he had excellent defenders like Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti in front of him.

Puyol, 40, shared his two cents about Columbian Mina’s short stint at the Camp Nou.

The centre-back was signed by Barca in the winter transfer window of the 2017/18 season, but he failed to leave a mark. Mina was then shipped off to Everton on loan last summer.

Puyol pointed out that it’s not easy for any young defender to make it big at Barcelona, especially with players like Pique and Umtiti being first in line to take the field.

“Succeeding at Barcelona isn’t easy,” Puyol said at the Champions League Trophy Tour in Indonesia, an event he was involved with as an ambassador for Heineken, according to Marca.

“It’s not easy to go there and adapt. You have to have time and you have players like [Gerard] Pique and [Samuel] Umtiti in front of you.

“I wish Mina good luck. Things like that happen and it’s not always easy.”
