  • Barcelona officials are set to be in the stands once again on Sunday night to check the progress of highly rated Netherlands centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and could even hold talks with Ajax, according to reports.

De Ligt, 19, has emerged as one of this summer’s most-coveted players. He has been consistently linked with following club and international colleague Frenkie de Jong to Camp Nou, in a deal that could be worth up to €70 million.

SPORT have stated that Barca sporting director Eric Abidal will be in attendance at Johan Cruyff Arena when the Dutch host Germany in Euro 2020 qualifying (23:45 KO UAE time). The ex-France defender will also hope to gain the opportunity to discuss De Ligt’s future with opposite number Marc Overmars.

Even if negotiations do not occur, the La Liga champions are eager to keep compiling scouting report on De Ligt ahead of a potential summer investment.

Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are reported as being major rivals in the transfer chase.
