  • Lionel Messi suffered a blow to his face on Wednesday night during Barcelona’s Champions League engagement with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Argentine was bleeding from the nose after a clash with United defender Chris Smalling. Messi refused to be substituted and finished the game despite struggling for breath.

There were concerns that the 31-year-old injured his nasal septum in the process and could sit out for a few weeks.

However, he underwent tests on Thursday at the Barcelona training ground and it was confirmed that there was no fracture, according to Marca.

Barcelona fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, learning that Messi’s potential injury is just a scare and he will be available for selection for their weekend La Liga fixture against bottom-placed Huesca.

Although, it is believed that coach Ernesto Valverde is likely to rest Messi and several other key players to have them fresh for the second leg at Camp Nou on Tuesday.
