Portugal coach Fernando Santos insisted he had no need to call Cristiano Ronaldo and is letting him enjoy some time off.
The Real Madrid star is on holiday and won’t participate in the national team’s World Cup warm-up game against Belgium on Saturday night.
“I won’t bother Cristiano by calling him after a spell where he put in so much effort and is tired,” Santos said.
Watch him give his thoughts on the subject below.
Just days after securing an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League trophy, Zizou on Thursday announced his resignation, citing the fact that he felt a change was needed after two and a half successful years.
In an Instagram post, 33-year-old Ronaldo said: “I feel proud to have been your player. Thank you so much.”
Sergio Ramos was the first man off the plane, carrying the trophy to mark Los Blancos’ La Decimotercera.
On Sunday, the Whites will visit the city’s Cathedral of Almudena (21.15) and then move onto the headquarters of the Community of Madrid (22.30). There, Zinedine Zidane and his squad will greet fans from the balcony of City Hall.
Following that, the traditional celebration will take place at the goddess Cibeles (00:15), before the procession continues to the Bernabeu (02:00).
