  • Who will come out on top at Old Trafford?

We have asked two UAE-based supporters to give their verdict on the standout Premier League fixture of the weekend, as well as providing you with details of where you can watch the game in the UAE.

Will Jose Mourinho’s men stretch their 15-match unbeaten run?

Or will Jurgen Klopp’s side bounce back immediately from their EFL Cup defeat to Southampton in mid-week?

    THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

    1. Wayne Rooney levelled Sir Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United scoring record in the FA Cup and has done well of late. But who should he replace in the starting XI if Jose picks him?

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic not feeling well, he could be the player Rooney replaces. However, assuming Zlatan is Zlatan and he doesn’t do illness, then the player that will make way for Rooney is likely to be Anthony Martial. Wayne has written the script perfectly – he would love to become United’s all-time highest marksman with a goal against the Kop side.

    2. Does United’s recent form point to Michael Carrick’s importance?

Yes, his composure, vision and ability to control the middle of the park have helped Paul Pogba enjoy more freedom, move forward and express himself in attacking areas. Carrick’s pass completion rate is around 90 per cent and the veteran can still control the midfield.

    3. How important is a win for the Red Devils, not just to make up ground, but to prove their recent run of excellent form wasn’t just down to having a comfortable fixture list?

At the end of the day points are what count but in a match against Liverpool, it’s far from the case. A win will boost confidence further and send out a real statement of intent for Mourinho’s men. However, points-wise, a victory will put United just two behind Liverpool and that would be a massive psychological boost.

    PLAYER TO WATCH

Big game goals have tended to come courtesy of Juan Mata recently and it wouldn’t surprise me if he causes Liverpool problems – and gets on the scoresheet again.

    PREDICTION

Our confidence is high and Liverpool arrive at Old Trafford off the back of a few bad results so I’m confident. I think we’ll win 2-0.

    LIVERPOOL FAN RAFEEF KADHURN

    1. How much will Sadio Mane be missed?

It’s a huge loss for us and very much Senegal’s gain in the Africa Cup of Nations. Given he’s our top goalscorer and chief assist-maker, his absence leaves a big gap. Mane’s energy makes him a nuisance for defenders and the fact that he has only been involved in one defeat this season is a true indicator of how important he is for the team. The 24-year-old’s finishing is superb and he’s up there with the very best in the Premier League. His clinical touch is without doubt a big miss for us.

    2. Given the team’s current position, is winning the title a realistic target?

Being four points behind the league leaders and close on goal difference, the answer to the word ‘realistic’ has to be yes. At Liverpool, expectations are always high and we are aiming for top spot. We have all got a bit worried with the recent dropped points, but missing key players has really stretched our squad. The pressure is on Chelsea and not on us, so we have the upper hand in that respect.

    3. Which player do you want back for this game and who is most important and why – Philippe Coutinho, Joel Matip or Jordan Henderson?

Great question. They have all been missed in different ways and that’s been clear in our recent performances. I think for this match, which is always high in emotion and played at a terrific pace, we need someone who can create a turning point. That man is Coutinho. Not only does he add firepower but his return will hopefully spark up the bond he has with Roberto Firmino.

    PLAYER TO WATCH

With our top goalscorer out, and Coutinho just returning, I am hopeful Daniel Sturridge will offer his best performance of the season – should Klopp decide to play him. His instinct in front of goal is as good as anyone and on his day he can score from anywhere. The England forward handles pressure well and this could be the game where he shows what he is capable of this season.

    PREDICTION

I’m going with a close 2-1 win for us. With our inconsistent defence, we will concede, but I think we can outscore United and come away with all three points.
