Nemanja Matic feels his burgeoning central midfield partnership with Paul Pogba will propel Manchester United into a strong position this season.
Matic’s big-money summer move from rivals Chelsea has helped to free-up the Frenchman’s attacking instincts on the pitch, while the Serbian is renowned for his ability to break-up play, distribute the ball and protect the defence.
It is the second time Matic has worked with Jose Mourinho, the manager who signed him in January 2014 for the Blues, and the Portuguese has already deployed the 29-year-old to great effect again.
Indeed, the defensive midfielder was named man-of-the-match as United thrashed West Ham United 4-0 on the opening day of the Premier League campaign – with both Matic and Pogba – who scored late on – receiving plenty of plaudits for their performances.
“I think we play together very well,” Matic told MUTV ahead of the Reds’ trip to Swansea.
“We help each other. I have to say he played good in attack and also helped a lot when we were defending. He always played next to me. We are there on the pitch to fight for each other. We will continue like this and I’m happy to have him in the team.”
