  • In this column, we track the best Arab football talents plying their trade in the Premier League and round-up their accomplishments every week.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is never far from the headlines, especially this season due to his scintillating form for the Reds, and he features this week after Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez failed to impress against Chelsea, while Ahmed Hegazy could not be faulted for his efforts in West Brom’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

Here’s a look at how these Arab footballers fared this weekend.

RIYAD MAHREZ | LEICESTER 1-2 CHELSEA

His effort was there but unfortunately his touch wasn’t as the Foxes slumped to their third defeat of the season against Chelsea.

The Algerian made one telling contribution in the first half when he skipped down the right flank to slip the ball to Islam Slimani who produced a good save from Thibaut Courtois.

Although well marshalled by Antonio Rudiger, the 25-year-old failed to make any impact without a consistent supply of ball from his midfield.

MOHAMED SALAH | MAN CITY 5-0 LIVERPOOL

Had the beating of Nicolas Otamendi down the right in the first half, turning him for pace on a number of occasions.

When Gabriel Jesus converted the second goal for the home side, the Egyptian couldn’t get any service of ball to show his attacking prowess.

Despite being substituted after 46 minutes, he was Liverpool’s best performer in the first half.

AHMED HEGAZY | BRIGHTON 3-1 WEST BROM

The Egyptian started the day brightly, with pin point passing and strong running going forward.

He nearly played a hand in the opening goal too. From a corner, he flicked the ball on to Jonny Evans who pushed his effort marginally wide.

Despite a comprehensive defeat to Premier League newboys Brighton, Hegazy has had a positive start to the season alongside Craig Dawson at the heart of the Baggies defence.
