  • 2017 was very kind for Mohamed Salah.

2017 was a very special one for Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool and Egypt ace scooped the CAF African Player of the Year award on Thursday evening to cap a phenomenal past 12 months.

In total, Salah played 59 matches for Roma, Egypt and Liverpool in the calendar year, scoring 38 goals and laying on 19 assists for club and international team-mates.

Here, we take a closer look at the 25-year-old’s achievements on the pitch, with seven deadly stats.

The amount of times Salah has found the back of the net for Liverpool this season, in 29 appearances across all competitions. 17 of those goals have come in the Premier League – putting him just one behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane in the scoring charts.

    10

Salah netted 10 goals for Roma in 2017 and weighed in with nine assists during 20 appearances. The attacker’s form has shown no signs of slowing down and it’s little wonder Liverpool shelled out a €42m fee to capture the Egyptian back in June.

The combined number of goals (five) and assists (two) Salah conjured up for his country last year (in 10 appearances) – which culminated in Egypt qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Indeed, it was his late penalty against Congo that ensured the Pharaohs made it to the biggest global stage for the first time since 1990.

The total number of goals Salah netted in 2017.

The world’s most in-form player? Salah certainly has a case.

    15

Incredibly, Salah has missed more gilt-edged chances than any other player in the Premier League this season (15), with Manchester City pair Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus next on the list having spurned 11 big chances each.

    3

As mentioned, having scored 17 and created five in the Premier League this term – Salah has directly contributed to three more goals than any other player in the English top flight.

That number again. Salah’s CAF win was his third high-profile 2017 award after he also scooped the BBC African Footballer of the Year and Arab Player of the Year accolades.
