  • Diego Godin was a star at the World Cup for Uruguay.

Manchester United have reportedly moved to sign Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports News.

Earlier on Thursday, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho said the prospect of last-minute incomings appeared slim, however, the 32-year-old Uruguay stalwart has emerged as a possible target.

Sources have revealed United contacted Diego Simeone’s men over Godin’s availability.

The Spanish club have not yet responded and it is unlikely they will allow a key member of their squad to leave so close to the start of the new La Liga season.

That said, Godin is out of contract in the summer of 2019 and talks over a new deal have not progressed this summer amid speculation linking him with Juventus.

It is also believed that the Red and Whites cult hero has a buyout clause of €20m.
