Manchester United are attempting to take advantage of a rift at RB Leipzig and make Paul Mitchell their first-ever director of football, according to reports.

Mitchell, 37, arrived in the Bundesliga last February after he gained a sterling reputation at Southampton and Tottenham.

BILD state that the Manchester-native would be interested in securing what would be his “dream job”. Also, Die Bullen manager Ralf Rangnick was not impressed with the summer’s failure to procure replacement options for Everton winger Ademola Lookman – a former loanee – and Germany midfielder Sebastian Rudy – who joined Schalke, instead.

Roma’s Monchi and Juventus’ Fabio Paratici are among the other names to be linked to the prestigious posting at Old Trafford.
