Manchester City hosting Liverpool was built up as the biggest fixture of the season and a potential title decider. The game did live up to its hype as the teams put on an entertaining show.

The hosts became the first team to defeat Liverpool in the Premier League this season, as they won 2-1 on the night. Funnily, it was the other way around last season, with Liverpool halting Manchester City’s unbeaten run.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after he was fed in a tight angle by Bernardo Silva. The Argentine did brilliantly well to squeeze the ball through with his weaker foot, behind Alisson.

Firmino drew level in the second half after he eased the ball from point-blank following a gentle square pass by Andrew Robertson.

Finally, it was Leroy Sane who made the difference as he latched on to a pass from Raheem Sterling and sent the ball to the far post as Alisson looked on.

Aguero was at the end of an easy chance that he should have buried to provide City some cushion. But the Argentine failed to put the game to bed.

This result means that Liverpool are now just four points ahead of second placed City. The reduced cushion blows the title race wide open and City will be looking to build on this win and fight to defend their title.
