Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho congratulated Petr Cech on an amazing career after the former Chelsea custodian announced that he decided to call it a day at the end of this season.

The pair joined Chelsea together in 2004 and won the Premier League that season.

The Portuguese takes pride in the fact that he was the one who trusted a young Cech and handed him an opportunity to prove himself at the London-based club.

“I am honoured to have been the manager that, at such an early age, gave Petr a top Premier League number one shirt,” Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

“After that day, it is all about him. All about his numbers, his performances, his clean sheets, his titles and his professionalism.

“It’s a big loss for football but history can’t be deleted. Many congratulations on such an amazing career.”

During an illustrious period of 15 years in the Premier League, Cech has won the league four times and FA Cup five times. He also won the Champions League with Chelsea in the 2011/12 season and followed it up with the Europa League in 2012/13
