  • Arsenal closed the gap to fourth-placed Chelsea to just three points with a 2-0 win at home in the Premier League.

Goals in the first half from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny were enough to secure all three points for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.

Here, we rate the performances of the Arsenal players.

    ARSENAL 4-4-2

Bernd Leno – Wasn’t tested nearly enough as his opposite number. Could’ve done better with his distribution. 6

Hector Bellerin – Was a threat going forward and provided the assist for Lacazette. Had to work hard against Willian defensively. Stretchered off with 20 minutes to play. 7

Sokratis – His cross/lobbed pass saw centre-back partner Koscielny score Arsenal’s second. A stunning, uncompromising performance in defence as well. 7

Laurent Koscielny – His powerful header was thwarted by Kepa Arrizzabalaga but then scored with his shoulder. Marshalled the defence and swept up behind Sokratis. 8

Sead Kolasinac – Went on several marauding runs down the left flank but misplaced a few passes. Strong in a challenge and generally tracked back well. 7

Lucas Torreira – Provided real bite and steel in midfield, making a whopping nine tackles.  Great ball in from which Koscielny was denied. 7

Granit Xhaka – Good delivery into the box and anchored the midfield well. Supported the centre-backs by dropping deep when Chelsea exerted pressure. 6

Matteo Guendouzi – Stellar performance in midfield, recovering possession on numerous occasions with five tackles and three interceptions. 7

Alexandre Lacazette – Started dangerously, setting up Aubameyang with a glorious opportunity before finishing superbly from a tight angle to break the deadlock. 8

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Missed a gilt-edged chance in the first half but went close with a good run later and then an overhead kick. 7

Aaron Ramsey – Showed great energy and intensity in the final third, closing down Jorginho to break down Chelsea’s play and attacking in the transition. 6

    SUBS

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (67′) – His versatility came to the fore when he had to slot in at right-back when Bellerin got injured. 6

Alex Iwobi (68′) – Had to spend more time in his own half as Chelsea chased the game. 5

Mohamed Elneny (72′) – Came on for the closing stages to help see the game out. 5
